He took his residencies in general surgery at the University of Miami, Florida and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. His residency in plastic surgery was completed at the University of Illinois in Chicago, where he was also an instructor in plastic surgery.

Dr. Karlin is a member of many local, national, and international medical societies. He has authored numerous articles in respected journals and has made many television and radio appearances, including CNN, KPLA, Eye on L.A., KMAX, KZLA and KGL. To ensure that he provides his patients with the most up-to-date techniques, he continuously participates in seminars and conferences.
